This probably sounds really dumb, but I want to invest in the stock market…in different companies like apple or facebook, etc. I’m still in school and want to start investing some of my money. Does anyone know how to use Nasdaq or Dow or w/e else there is??

I am interested in getting an internship during this summer dealing with stock market in general. However, while going through numerous internship websites, as well as job search engines, I became more and more lost. None of the categories were as clear cut as to say “Brokerage Firm.” Instead, I came across; Accounting & Finance, Finance, Investment, Financial Services, Investment banking, ect. WHAT?! I just want to get an internship where daily vitality of the market matters, and decision have to be made due to that. Those options are not detailed enough for me to say, “Yes, that’s were I would like to be.” With my upcoming AA in business management, I understand that I will not be a broker; however, I just want to be around that environment. I am interested in getting to taste that line of work, also better understand the market in real life, enough with the books! I live in NJ, so lets not refer to NY, Chicago, or Philly.

How does the stock market really work? I have a few questions?
Filed Under Stock Market | 4 Comments
I want to know how the stock market really works in terms of:
1. Investors Buying & Selling shares; how does the trading volume, here, of individual buys & sells affect a company’s stock price?
2. How can you tell how many people/investors are buying or selling a company’s stock in order to go long or short and put the odds in your favour - is there any specific technical analysis indicator that can tell you this, or what else can?
3. How does news affect stock prices?

How does the stock market of today resemble the stock market of the past?
Filed Under Stock Market | 1 Comment
The way a lot of people paint it, the stock market was just a safe, ol’ bird you could get rich on if you stuck your money in there for 40 years. I have only a 5 year history learning about and investing in stocks, but feel like its every day a roller coaster. What was it like in say the 60’s, 70’s, 80’s etc. or before if you were around then?

I’m doing my junior project on how online stock exchange has affected the stock market. For one of my body paragraphs, I’m focusing specifically on day traders. I would assume they have a great impact on the stock market, but I need to know a lot more info. It’s a little hard to find. Even if you could just give me links, that would be great. I’ve gotta pound the rest of this paper out tonight…. Thanks in advance!
